Marlene Looney Bates, age 88, of Collierville, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2021. Marlene was born on September 25, 1932. She worked for Ford Motor Company and later worked for Parke-Davis as a Statistician. Mrs. Bates was instrumental in starting the Germantown Animal Shelter. Marlene was a former member of Kirby Woods Baptist Church and later became a member of Crossroads Baptist Church. Mrs. Bates loved to travel, taking cruises and spending time at the beach.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years William Howard Bates. Marlene is survived by her two daughters; Ginger Wheat (Timothy), Rebecca Felts (Earl), three grandchildren; Newman, Austin, and Julian Wheat, one brother, Billy Joe Looney and one sister, Barbara.
The family will receive friends from 1pm until service time at 2pm, on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Parkway Bartlett, TN 38133.
