Johnny Mack Pittman, Jr., 92, of Memphis, TN passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on June 22, 2022. He was born to the late Johnny Mack and Effie Mae Pittman on May 25, 1930 in Hattiesburg, MS.
He graduated from the College of Pharmacy at the University of Mississippi in 1955 where he served as student president. He later served as president of the School of Pharmacy Alumni Association from 2001 to 2003. After marrying Barbara Lynn Harris in 1956, they moved to San Diego, CA where he served in the United States Navy. After his honorary discharge, they moved back to Hattiesburg, where he started working as a pharmacist at the Walnut Street Pharmacy. He then worked 33 years for the Upjohn Pharmaceutical company as a pharmaceutical sales representative and district manager where he won the prestigious W.E. Upjohn award. He started his career with Upjohn in Gulfport, MS and later was transferred to Memphis, TN where he retired from Upjohn Pharmaceutical Company. After a very brief retirement, he joined the Shelby County Health Department where he worked as a pharmacist for 25 years and retired at the age of 90.
He loved coaching and supporting his children and grandchildren on sports teams and at times provided needed advice to umpires and referees! He was a loving husband, wonderful dad and adoring grandfather and will be missed by everyone who treasured him.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Barbara Lynn Pittman and his sisters Evelyn Rea Everett, Elizabeth Pittman and Lillian Loggans. He is survived by his four sons Macky Pittman (Ann), Andy Pittman (Julie), Dr. Beau Pittman (Holly) and Chris Pittman (Hope); his grandchildren Will Pittman, Beth Pierce (Corban), Mary Hollyn Pittman, Nathan Pittman (Emma), Brandon Mack Pittman, Adrienne Pittman, Olivia Dempsey (Dylan), Audrey Pittman, Parker Pittman; and great grandchildren Jack Pierce and Rhett Andrew Pierce.
Family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday June 29, at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd, Bartlett, TN. Services will follow at 2:00 p.m.
