Joe N. Sanders 86, of Memphis, TN passed away December 26th, 2021. Joe was born August 4, 1935 in Middleton, TN. He was the son of William Parnell and Johnnie (Bass) Sanders. He was a dedicated husband of 61 years, a loving father and grandfather. Joe enjoyed woodworking in his workshop and tinkering with electronics and computers. But his biggest love was for his four grandkids whom he adored.
He served in the US Marine Corps and spent 25 years with the Memphis Police Department. During his time with the Memphis Police Department he was instrumental in establishing the first Bomb disposal team in the Mid-South region. He also served several years on the Special Services squad (SWAT).
Joe and his wife, Betty, raised their family in Memphis, TN and was a long-time member of Balmoral Bapt Church and Colonial Bapt Church in Memphis. Joe was a dedicated reader and had an insatiable love of all things related to military history.
In addition to his wife Betty, he leaves behind his son Joel Kirk (Judy) of Collierville, TN, and daughter Pam Sanders (Chattanooga, TN). He also leaves four grandchildren that he adored, Ethan Sanders, Alex Henry, Megan Black, and Emily Black. He is survived by three sisters; Betty (Roger) Roberson, Shirley (David) Eason, Jeannette Campbell, and two brothers; Mike Sanders, Don (Dottie) Sanders. Joe was predeceased by his brother, Bill Sanders, and sister Eloise Conlee.
A private service will be held for immediate family.
