Jerry Wayne Parker, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and loyal worker for the State of Tennessee, peacefully passed away at his home on March 29, 2024. Born on April 21, 1944, in Covington, TN, Jerry was one of six children born to Paul Edwards and Annie Mae Parker.
Jerry leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years, Shirley Griggs Parker, who stood by his side through life's joys and challenges. His children survive him, John Bradley Parker (Leigh Ann Parker), Dr. Robin Nicole Trusty (Mark Trusty), and three grandchildren, Lindsey Parker, Parker Trusty, and Reese Trusty.
In his long career, Jerry dedicated over 43 years of service to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, where his hard work and commitment left a lasting impact on his colleagues and community. Before working for TDOT, he was on the Sheriff's patrol.
Jerry’s strongest passion and unwavering devotion was reserved for his family. Throughout his life, he exemplified loyalty and love in every aspect of his life. With a very well-lived life as a deeply loved man, Jerry imparts a legacy that teaches the dignity of work, the gift of kindness, the value of compassion, and the paramount importance of family.
Jerry's passing is deeply mourned by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. While he will be greatly missed, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.
Jerry Wayne Parker was preceded in death by his brothers Paul Thurmond Parker, Robert Harold Parker, Paul Stanley Parker, and sister Helen Parker Elliotte. He is survived by his sister, Mary Carver, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Jerry's life will be held to honor his memory and his profound impact on the lives of those around him. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., with funeral service starting at 2:00 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133.
