July 10, 1959 “DASH” March 25, 2023
“Jimmy” Chandler was born to Bill and Liz Chandler on July 10, 1959 in Memphis, Tennessee and departed this life peacefully at home on March 25, 2023, at age 63.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Nabors, brothers Mike and Samuel, Aunt Margarit and Uncle Donald “Gene” Scott, Aunt Ted Archer, Uncle Bill Scott, Uncle Tony Scott, and his in-laws Walter and Joann Glover.
THE “DASH”
From his birth until his death, family was an important part of Jimmy’s life. In addition to his parents, his sister Barbara, and his Aunt Margarit and Uncle Gene, were influential during his formative years and continued to be throughout his life. His close-in-age nephews, Dannie and Forest Nabors, were like brothers to him.
He played various sports while in school, but his favorite was football. After graduating from Kingsbury High School, he attended Memphis State University (now named University of Memphis). While in college, he started his career in IT at Union Planters Bank, then moved to First Tennessee National Bank. He worked for several prestigious corporations throughout his career.
Jimmy met his wife Anita in 1980. It was only at the approval of his Aunt Margarit that he soon proposed, and they married the following year. Their first son Scott soon arrived, then Kyle a few years later. Their daughter Emily made their family complete.
Jimmy accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior, and was a member of Ellendale Baptist Church, where he and Anita raised their children.
He had many hobbies, including watching sports of all types, playing golf with his buddies Jeff Gibson and Bill Kellum, and just being outdoors. He was the family cook, who loved to prepare delicious meals on his Blackstone.
He enjoyed having coffee with several friends every weekend when he wasn’t at his cabin on the Tennessee River. While at the river, he enjoyed spending time with his river family, boating, and just sitting on the deck watching barges float by.
Above all other activities, his favorite was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren to whom he was affectionally named “Poppy”.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Anita Chandler; his children, Scott Chandler (Jamie), Kyle Chandler (Nicole), Emily Chandler (John); grandchildren, Reese, Lizzie, Colleen Joann “CJ”, and Brantley.
