J.D. Blankenship, lovingly known to his family as "Gan Gan," was born February 17, 1928 in Lexington, TN. He looked into the face of Jesus, his Savior, on Wednesday, September 8, 2010. Some of his favorite pastimes were gardening, hunting and listening to Southern Gospel Music. Two of J.D.'s passions were his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his devoted family. He worked in the heavy equipment industry for over 40 years. J.D. was a member of Mullins Station Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran. Left with sweet memories is his loving wife of 55 years, Geraldine of Arlington, TN. His legacy includes children Sheila (Mike) Burbee, John (Linda) Blankenship and Amy Bunch all of Bartlett, TN. He adored his four grandchildren Candace (Daniel) Jerkins, Tate Bunch, Kacie (Jeremy) Wilbur and Taylor Grace Bunch. He was preceded in death by brothers Clayton and Ernest Lee Blankenship; and survived by siblings Helen Wooley, Glen Blankenship, Margaret Leffel, nieces and nephews that he lovingly adored, and countless other family and friends whom were blessed to have known him. J.D. trusted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and lived out his faith on a daily basis. One of our favorite memories of Gan Gan was seeing him sitting on the side of the bed reading his Bible. Gan Gan lived what he read. He was a man of character, integrity and honor. Rev. 3:21. Visitation will be Friday, September 10, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. and a funeral service and interment will be held Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 2 p.m., both at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens 3700 N. Germantown Rd. Condolences may be offered at www.memphisfuneralhome.net
