Henry J. Mowry, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather went peacefully to his heavenly home on Thursday, June 30, 2011 under the caring hands of Hospice. Henry was born January 27, 1920 in Gering, Nebraska. He served 4 years in the Pacific Theatre during WWII and earned a Bronze Star for his service. He retired from the Post Office in 1985 after working there for 33 years as a supervisor of plant maintenance for the Memphis Region. After retirement he volunteered at MIFA and the Food Pantry. Henry was a member of Trinity Lutheran for over 56 years where he served in various positions such as Trustee, Chairman of the Congregation along with various committee chair positions. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Johnnie, children David (Sharon) Mowry of Arlington, TN, Deborah (William) Clark of Kalamazoo, MI, his late son Rev. Timothy’s widow Roberta Mowry of Traverse City, MI, grandchildren Kelley, Tracy, Sarah, Nathan, Paul, Joshua; great-grandchildren, William, Katherine and Caroline. He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Amelia; son Rev. Timothy Mowry; siblings Orletha, Earl and Delores. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 3 from 1 pm until service time at 2 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Memorial Fund, 210 Washington Ave, Memphis, TN 38103 or St. Jude Children’s Research hospital.
