Greta Gorrell Thompson, retired real estate broker, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at the age of 82. Mrs. Thompson was a past president of Memphis Area Association of Realtors, past president of Tennessee Association of Realtors, and past chairman of the Board of Shelby County Assessors. Greta was an active member of Ellendale United Methodist Church where she knitted many prayer shawls. She enjoyed playing bridge and had a passion for cooking for her family and friends.
Greta is preceded in death by her husband John R Thompson, her daughter Janet Sturch, her grandson Bobby Sturch, and two brothers, Larry Gorrell and Bert Gorrell. She leaves her children, David Forbush (Kathy), Laura Thompson Vita, John Thompson, Chris Nail, her sister Brenda Cleveland (Terry), two sister-in-law’s, Jane Gorrell, and Annette Gorrell, eleven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5pm until 8pm, on Monday, March 26, 2018, at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N Germantown Pkwy, Bartlett, TN 38133. A funeral service will be held at 2pm, on Tuesday, March 27, at Ellendale United Methodist Church, 7205 Centralia Rd, Memphis, TN 38135, with interment to follow at Memphis Memory Gardens. Any memorial donations in Greta’s honor may be sent to the Ellendale United Methodist Church.
