Donna Marie Garland Lane was born February 8, 1926, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Rachel and Doyle Garland. Growing up with seven brothers and a sister, she was something of a tomboy but also a very talented singer and performer. In 1945 she was working in a record shop in Des Moines when she met the love of her life, Vernon Lane. They were married on August 16 of that year.
After moving to Memphis, Tennessee, Mrs. Lane worked in the banking industry for many years but her heart was dedicated to her family and to her Lord and Savior. The Lanes were founding members of Whitten Memorial Baptist Church where she used her gift of song participating in the choir and was frequently called upon to sing for special occasions. She taught Sunday School and Bible study classes. When circumstances prevented her from continuing to teach in person, she embraced technology, posting a daily Bible study online with an extensive following.
The Lanes were blessed with three children: Judy (Don Watson), Leroy "Bob" (Janet) and Linda (Ron Follis). Through the years the family grew to include eight grandchildren and their spouses, and eighteen great-grandchildren. Mrs Lane was the greatest cheerleader for all her family (and many friends) with encouragement and prayers.
On Monday, February 13, 2023, Donna Lane gently and peacefully passed to her heavenly home.
The funeral will be held on February 25 at Memphis Funeral Home, North Germantown Parkway. Visitation will begin at 9:00 with the service at 10:30. Interment will follow at Memphis Memory Gardens, Raleigh-Lagrange Road.
