Don was the beloved husband of 56 years of Nancy Kyle Thetford who he loved and adored.
He leaves behind a daughter, Joy Thetford Gilmore (Steve) and a son, Donald Richard Thetford, Jr.(Allison). His grandchildren Megan Mims (Wright), Krista Smith (Matt), Bryce Gilmore, Ashlynn McDonald (Chase), John Robert Gilmore, Tyke Thetford, Wilson Thetford, Bryner Gilmore, Grayson Gilmore and great grandchild Ace Mims who all loved their Poppy.
Don was a retired Captain with the Memphis Police Department and served the city of Memphis for 30 years. He also built homes all around the Memphis area and had a gift for wood working.
He attended First Baptist Church of Lakeland where he built the church and fellowship hall. He was also a deacon at the church he loved so much.
His greatest joy was his family and he was happiest when surrounded by all of them. He loved them all so well.
