Cynthia "Cindy" Gay

Cynthia “Cindy” Gay was born in Quincy, Massachusetts, on October 31, 1949 to William “Bill” and Carolyn Gay. She was the middle of three children and shared endless stories of what it was like to grow up with two brothers.

She grew up in Brockton, Massachusetts, until her family of five moved to Germantown, Tennessee, where she completed her senior year at Mabel C. Williams High School, graduating in May of 1967.

Cindy graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. After graduation, she taught elementary school for several years. She joined Holiday Inn Corp. in Memphis, Tennessee, where she started out in reservations, moving on to hold several positions within the Product Services Division, including telephone sales representative and merchandising. She joined Graham’s Lighting & Fine Hardware as a sales representative and enjoyed 35 years as an employee there until she retired.

Cindy enjoyed reading and needlework, as well as being a recliner Jeopardy champion. She adored spending time with all of her great nieces and nephews, and of course, “being fabulous”. In addition to her family, Cindy cherished her friendships, some of which began before she moved away from Massachusetts.

Cindy is survived by her two nieces and a nephew: Allie (Jason) Harper of Paris, TN; Sara (Jason) Latshaw of Lakeland, TN; and Chris (Kristy) Gay of San Diego, CA. She is also survived by her beloved great nieces and nephews: Emily (Chandan) Green, Riley Harper, Ava Latshaw, Olivia Harper, Ian Latshaw, and David Bradford Gay.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William “Bill” and Carolyn Gay and her brothers, Bradford “Brad” and David Gay.

There will be a Memorial Service at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Olive Branch, Mississippi, on Saturday, August 3 at 10:00 a.m. A private burial service will follow in Paris, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages those who wish to express sympathy to make a donation to their preferred charity in memory of Cynthia Gay.
