Clifford Allen Bennett, of Memphis, died peacefully in the Baptist Reynolds Hospice House on April 10, 2016 in Memphis, Tennessee at the age of 89. Cliff is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ruby Taylor Bennett; two sons, Robert Terry Bennett (Frank Inderbitzen) and Mark Edward Bennett (Candy); six grandchildren, Michael Brandon Bennett (Loni), Nicole Elaine Mooney (Jason), Christopher Eric Bennett, Mitchell Allen Bennett, Morgan Alise Bennett and Taylor Cade Lachat and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Allen Bennett (Sherry). Cliff was born in Peoria, IL on July 16, 1926. He joined the US Navy in 1944 and was stationed at the Millington Naval Base. During his time there, He met his future wife and they married in 1946. Cliff loved his church, St. Stephen United Methodist, where he was a Charter Member. He was very active in his church, which included teaching Sunday School Classes for both the Youth Department and the Adult Fellowship Class, in addition to many leadership positions. He enjoyed gardening, especially tending to his many rose bushes, travel and was a very avid Memphis Tigers Basketball fan. The family will receive guests this evening, Tuesday, April 12 from 5-7 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 13 at St. Stephen United Methodist Church at 3981 Macon Rd. with interment to follow in Memorial Gardens.
