Charles Burton “Burt” Allen, III passed on from this life on Sunday, June 25, 2023. He left this world at 78 years old. Burt was born to Charles B. Allen, II, and Mary Bryan Parker Allen on October 3, 1944 in Memphis, TN. He is a graduate of East High School, where he enjoyed baseball. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force. He served as a loadmaster from 1964-1968. While based in Montgomery, AL he spent his spare time as a bass player in the band, “The Hinchman”. In 1969, he joined the Memphis Police Department. He spent 25 years serving MPD in various roles, ranging from uniform officer, to the first tactical squad, and special services in the aviation field. While serving MPD, he was also a 20 year member of the Air Guard. As if that resume wasn’t impressive enough, he continued on to the Germantown Police Department, where he served 12 years as a lieutenant, detective, and then accident reconstruction expert. He spent the last two years of his storied career as a patrol officer at Piperton Police Department. He excelled in his marksmanship, for which he received many accolades.
When he wasn’t busy protecting the community, he enjoyed golf, University of Memphis athletics, and riding his Harley. Burt was a charter member of the Wild Pigs Motorcycle Club, a national club made up of law enforcement officers that ride Harley Davidson brand motorcycles. They rode to Sturgis, SD, and everywhere in between. However, the club’s greatest passion was raising money for fallen officers and children in need. Their annual poker was an event not to be missed, as it was enjoyed by many. The Wild Pigs brotherhood was always more like a family to Burt.
He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his brother (Robert), wife (Toni), children (Mike, Greg, Paige, and Morgan), and 5 grandchildren. In addition, multiple canine companions will be meeting him at the rainbow bridge. Arrangements are being handled by Memphis Funeral Home in Bartlett, TN. The service will be held on Thursday, June 29th, at 2:00 pm. The family will receive visitors one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in his memory.
