Bonita Ione Wilson Scruggs “Bonnie”, 84, peacefully entered the arms of her Lord and Savior on December 13, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 27, 1939, in Round Pond, Arkansas. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Millington, Tennessee. Bonnie dedicated many years of her work life to the National Cotton Council, where she served as an Executive Secretary. Her strong work ethic, attention to detail, and unwavering dedication made her a valued member of the team until her well-earned retirement.
After graduating from high school, Bonnie and her sister, Hope, embarked on an adventure to Memphis, Tennessee, where they both attended Draughon’s Business College. Bonnie eventually made Memphis her home, where she met the love of her life, Phillip Scruggs. Together, they built a beautiful life and lovingly raised their two sons, Phil Jr.and Lee.
Bonnie leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, cherished by her husband of 65 years, Phillip Scruggs; her sons, Phillip Scruggs, Jr. (Sandi) and Lee Scruggs (Heather); her granddaughter, Laura Scruggs; and her grandsons, Clay Scruggs and Ethan Scruggs.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Orie and Mollie Wilson; her five brothers, James Marcum, A.P. Marcum, Junior Wilson, Guy Wilson, and Glenn Wilson; and her three sisters, Rosemary Gray, Mollie Mae Fusell, and Clara Hope Castle.
She had a particularly close and special bond with her beloved sister Hope, as well as a large and loving extended family.
Bonnie will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her dedication to her family, and her kind and gentle spirit. She touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
May she rest in eternal peace, united with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for all eternity.
