The righteous will flower (Psalm 92)
Betty Hicks was born and grew up in rural Arkansas, just across the Mississippi. As a young woman, she worked in Memphis, where she met her husband – Edmond Hicks and had her two children. She passed away at age 91 in Mesa, Arizona, in the Armada senior group home where she had happily lived since 2020.
Betty was a lifelong advocate of human rights, social justice, and animal rights. She looked for beauty in the everyday world and spent her final months happily painting flowers, butterflies, and songbirds.
Betty never stopped thinking of herself as a southerner. She wished to be buried next to her son, Edmond ‘Bill’ Hicks, in Memphis. We are happy that for her final resting place she is coming home to her native soil and her family.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Deborah Hicks-Rogoff, and her son-in-law Leonard Rogoff.
A graveside service for Betty will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh Lagrange Road, Memphis, TN 38134.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.MemphisFuneralGermantownParkway.com for the Hicks family.
