Betty Lou Bennett was born on December 10, 1943 in Ripley, MS to the proud parents, Tommie Auvern Bennett and Frances Grady Bennett. Betty was the 4th of 6 children born to this union. She was preceded in death by both her parents, 1 sister, Nancy Bennett and 1 brother, Terry Bennett. Betty is survived by 2 sisters, JoAnn Moffitt of Ripley, MS and Patricia Tedford of Big Sandy, TN, as well as 1 brother, Tommy Bennett (Lea) of Ripley MS. Betty is also survived by her husband of 10 years, Kenneth Wayne Blankenship.
Growing up in Ripley, MS, Betty graduated from Ripley High School. She continued her formal education, graduating from Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville, MS and then, attended the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS.
In 1963, Betty married Donald Wayne Burns and to this union was born 3 children.
She is survived by these 3 sons: Shaine Burns (Courtney) of Lakeland, TN, Donald Burns (Jodi) of Bakersville, MO, and Scott Burns of Moscow, TN Betty was blessed with 3 grandchildren: Lundy Burns of Lakeland TN, Preston Burns of Cincinnati, OH, and Carter Burns of Bartlett, TN.
In addition to being a homemaker, Betty was co-owner of the Shelby Center Auction, an antique auction house in Bartlett, TN with her then husband Don.
Also, Betty retired after many years of service from St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, TN, where she was a Professional Administrator in the Respiratory Therapy Department.
Betty was baptized into the fellowship of Deentown Macedonia Baptist Church in Blue Mountain, MS. She faithfully attended Ellendale Church of Christ in Bartlett, TN during the years her children attended school.
Betty Lou Burns entered her final rest on April 9, 2025 at her Collierville, TN home surrounded by her loving family at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 30 days.
The family will have food and fellowship at the funeral home following the graveside for all friends and family.
A visitation for Betty will be held Sunday, April 13, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM with her funeral service immediately following at 10:00 AM, the graveside service will be at 11:00 AM, all being held at Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 3700 N Germantown Pkwy, Bartlett, TN 38133.
