She is proceeded in death by her parents Felipe and Leonedes Vallejos, siblings Benny Vallejos and Lena Solis, husband Louie Peralta, son Danny Peralta (Tessie), daughter Eileen Jaramillo, and great granddaughter Jacelyn Sofia Peralta. She is survived by her siblings Ernest and Albert Vallejos, Eloisa Cordova, Pauline Sanchez (Luciano), Aunt Mena Moya and sons Tommy (Lenora), John, and Daniel (Lacy) Peralta. Grandchildren Cindy and Nicholas Jaramillo, Jason Peralta, Miranda, Nicole, and Bryan (Kayla) Peralta, David, April, and Melissa Sikora. Along with 10 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and also, friends that are family.
Sofie was born on June 20, 1936, in Adelino, New Mexico. The Vallejos family moved to Barstow in 1951, searching for better opportunities. In 1954, Louie and Sofie married. In 1955, they started their family and moved to a neighborhood outside of town, known as Lenwood, where they would reside for the next 68 years. Everyone in the neighborhood knew “Mrs. Peralta” for her loving and warm welcome. Whether it was sitting on the front porch talking about old times or visiting the sick, Mrs. Peralta always carried the most loving and compassionate spirit. Sofie worked hard as a homemaker, supporting her family, and always making sure things were in order. She worked at Taco Tia, which later became Del Taco, for over 10 years. After her shifts, she would bring food home and feed all the neighborhood kids, which some still remember. Sofie was known for her delicious New Mexico style food, all made from scratch! Grandma Sofie never forgot to make “birthday cakes” and making you feel special was always her priority. Her willingness to love, care, and provide were unmatched. She always taught forgiveness, respect, but never forgot to include a funny joke. Sofie had a hunger and passion for Christ. She read her bible, prayed, worshipped, and drew near to God often. As a true follower of Christ, Sofie consistently lived her life serving and caring for others.
Sofie enjoyed cooking for family, the train rides to New Mexico, shopping at the 99-cent store, and driving around town telling everyone not to tell Lacy! Most of all, she loved to watch the Dodgers and cheer on her favorite player, #50 Mookie Betts. And just recently, she was able to watch the Jackie Robinson Day win!
Sofie was the matriarch of the family, a strong role model, the glue that kept everyone close, and someone everyone loved and cherished.
“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style. Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud. I’ve learned that people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel”.
