Leonard Loyd Schreiner

Leonard Loyd Schreiner was born August 23, 4930 in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma to Fred & Ruth Schreiner. He was the youngest of three; his sisters were Lucille Clark Lee (deceased) and Leta Schreiner Ringwald (living in OKC). His parents moved to farm cotton in Cooperton, Oklahoma where Leonard graduated from high school. Afterwards he enlisted in the Army where he served in the Korean Conflict and was injured. After his stint in the Army he met Ruth Angel Crenshaw in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was a mechanic in Amarillo, Texas for awhile.

He earned his BA and graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1965 and moved to Barstow to live with his sister, Leta and her family. At that time he joined FBC and accepted a teaching job with BUSD where he taught in Hinkley for several years. In April 1966. after dating Ruth for 8 years, they married in Wichita Falls. They came back to Barstow to a terrible dust storm. They were very involved at FBC and Ruth was the church secretary for 25 years.

Leonard earned his MA from Weatherford, Oklahoma in science. He was the director at BUSD's Desert Research Station for many years. Fourth graders from around the district would go to the DRS to learn about the desert flora and fauna. After the DRS closed, he was a science teacher at Barstow High School. He was a teacher for 29 years.

Leonard and Ruth did not have their own children but were second parents to Leta's children Rebecca, Fred, Roanna and Robb as well as many other children/young people at church and the students Leonard taught. When asked how he was doing his usual response was "Magnificently Wonderful!" He and Leta were close throughout their long lives and when he called his sister would often begin the call with "What's going on in Oklahoma?" He will be missed by many people.
