Long time Barstow resident James Grady was called home on September 19, 2015. Born March 16, 1919 in Republic Alabama, James was the eldest of seven children born to the union of Lester and Albirda (Russell) Grady. At the young age of 18 years old, James left his home in Alabama to join the United States Army. This was at time were minorities were not really welcomed by those they served with, or welcomed other countries. Having endured many obstacles during World War I and II he continued to service his country with pride and dignity he retired after 21 years of honorable and faithful service. James made the City of Barstow his home in 1962 working at the Marine Corps Logistics Base, retiring after twenty years of service. Shady Grady as he was affectionately called by family and friends. While James enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping out with his family, along with belonging to various local area organizations such as Elks, Moose and Veterans of Foreign War. James enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. James is preceded in death by his son Michael Grady, his parents and his six siblings. Grady (Woods) (Las Vegas, NV); CA) 18 Grandchildren and 37 Great Grandchildren and mother of his children Marcella Espinoza (Barstow, CA ). At this time we would like to thank all those family and friends who have in some way been touched by the man we called father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and Shady Grady. We thank you for all the love and support you have shown us in our time of need.
