Filomena S. Moya

Our beloved Mother Filomena S. Moya 93 of Barstow, wife of the late Eduardo L. Moya Jr., passed away Saturday September 2, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born to the late Prospero and Refugia Silva. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Bertha Ornelas and brother-in-law Simon

Filomena's most important things in life were God, family and friends. She enjoyed being there for everyone. She loved family get together's, laughing, parties, video chats and visits from Grandchildren. Mom worked at Camp Irwin when she came to Barstow with her dad. They returned to Belen and in 1950 mom married and then moved back to Barstow with dad, She was a homemaker and then started her career volunteering starting with Headstart. From there she was a PTA mom, a bilingual aid and taught folklórico dancing. She worked as a librarian at Montara, Cameron and Crestline Elementary and finished her career at Barstow High as a library clerk and she retired in 1994. Along the way she to got her AA in education from Barstow Community College, She graduated Magna Cum Laude. Her love for children was immense and she made a difference in the lives of many.

She is survived by her Brother David Silva (Deannie) , Daughter's Frances Moya, Maggie Elias (Manuel), Mary Ann Mansford (Rick), Evelyn Mendibles (Tommy), Mary Alice Moya and Theresa Ruiz (Valentine). Grandson's Sheldon S. Phillips (Rachael), Edward T. Barnett (Veronica), Lance J. Barnett (Ashley) of Savannah GA, Sherri Clifton (David), Dusti Cummings (Rob), Ricky Mansford (Randy), Michael Mendibles (Samantha), Mattie Mendibles, Roy Mendibles, Juan Mendibles and Marcos Mendibles and Granddaughters Angela Wood (Johnnie), Jessica Ruiz (Rudy), Danielle Ruiz, Alex Ruiz (Raquel) of Barstow, Tina Elias of Norwalk, Ca. Great Grandchildren Gavin, Atlas, Kady Belle, Brayden, Vinnie, Caleb, Trevor, Maddie, Shyanne, Sydney, Aubrey, Jr, Zofi, Zoe, Jonathan, Gabby, Mia, Tristin, Mena , Rebel, Roy, Riley, Alyssa, Syanne, Anthony, Romero, Tasai, Donnie Kai, Teigan, Kendal, Hayden, Jonathan, Soren, Gabriella, Jesiah, Ryan. Great- Great Grandchildren, Ayanna, Derrick, Sonia and Elena, Evelyn, Jaden and one coming soon. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Filomena will be held Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at Meads Mortuary 5 pm, Rosary at 6:30 pm. A mass will occur Thursday, September 21, 2023 10 AM at St Joseph Catholic Church, 505 E. Mountain View Street, Barstow, CA 92311. A committal service will occur Thursday at Mt View Memorial Park, 37067 Irwin Road, Barstow, CA. 92311 at 11:00. A reception will follow at Noonan Hall 505 E. Mountain View, Barstow Ca. 92311.
