Asela Duran

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Asela "Sally" Duran, who departed from this world on October 31, 2023. Sally was born on December 14, 1936, in Jalisco, Mexico, but spent the last 60 years of her life in Barstow, California. She was 86 years old.

Sally had a passion for life that was reflected in her hobbies. She was an exceptional cook, delighting family and friends with her culinary creations. Her sewing skills were a testament to her creativity and attention to detail. Her generosity extended beyond her family, as she dedicated her time and energy to St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Lenwood, a place of worship and community, where she found solace and purpose.

She lived a life filled with love, laughter, and boundless compassion. Her journey on this Earth was marked by moments of joy and sorrow, but she always faced them with grace and strength.

Sally is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Carlos Duran; four of her five children, Sandra Snyder of Barstow, California, Domingo (Rebecca) Duran of Barstow, California, Carlos (Katie) Duran Jr. of Phoenix, Arizona, and Rosalynn and spouse Sean Hanson of Fullerton, California; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Her dedication to her family was unwavering, and she leaves a legacy of love and unity. Her love and wisdom have been passed down through the generations, and her influence will continue to guide and inspire her family for years to come.

Sally was preceded in death by her dear daughter, Dora Zavala, and her beloved grandson, Robert Dennis Snyder Jr. Their memory will forever remain in our hearts.

As we bid farewell to Sally, we remember her as a remarkable woman whose warmth, kindness and devotion touched the lives of many. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May she rest in eternal peace.

The family invites you to join them in celebrating Sally’s life, with a rosary prayer service on Thursday, November 16, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church, 25333 3rd Street, Barstow, CA 92311, with the funeral service immediately following from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
