Adelia Marie Rincon was born on February 9, 1928 to Manuelita and David
Mares in the Mora Valley of Northern New Mexico. Tucked beneath the Sangre de Cristo Mountains
this area is rich in Spanish Colonial roots and is known for its remoteness and beauty.
Following WWII Delia, as she was known to family and friends, moved to Barstow CA with her
sister. She met and married Albert E. Rincon in 1947. Together they raised 5 children and had a
happy life for nearly 70 years until Alberts passing in 2016.
Delia was an involved member of her community and church, volunteering for both.
Delia was preceded in death by her husband Albert and her youngest
son, John David, her parents, siblings, and numerous friends and family.
Adelia left behind a legacy of love and knowledge. Delia was an amazing
cook and homemaker. She was talented, creative and excelled with everything
she put her mind and hands to. She tailored suits and coats, make clothing
for her children and grandchildren. The western shirts she made her sons
were works of art. She also crocheted, knitted, quilted and did all kinds of
needlework. She grew beautiful flowers that graced our dining table year round.
Mom rarely sat still and when she did her hands were working on
one project or another. She loved being a homemaker and would often be
heard humming as she went about her daily chores.
Her cooking will always be remembered and missed. Friends loved staying
over for dinner or coming home with us after school knowing she was
probably making flour tortillas and they would be treated to one with melted
butter. We all miss her tortillas and the other great foods she prepared.
When her children were older Delia worked as a bi-lingual aid for
Thompson Elementary School. She loved it when former students recognized
her years later. But most of all Delia took great pride in her family. She will
be forever missed.
Delia lived out her final years near her daughter and family in McKinleyville CA.
Delia is survived by her children, Dale, Barbara, Anthony, Mark and their
spouses. Grandchildren, Joanna, Daniel, Charie, Alison, Jonothan, Skye
and 13 great-grandchildren.
