It is with sadness we announce the passing of Kathleen Ruhl at the age of 92. Her feisty spirit will be missed by her two sons and daughter-in-law and their families: Lloyd (Noel) Ruhl and grand-daughter Heather Ruhl; Dennis (Cynthia) Ruhl and grand-daughter Alicia (Cory) Taylor and great-grandchildren Nathaniel and Caitlin Taylor, grandson Peter Ruhl, and grand-daughter Kendra (Roland) Ruhl-Larocque; Nadine Ruhl and grand-daughter Shannon (Justin) Rau and great-grandchildren Rylan and Kaelyn Rau, and grandson Sean Ruhl.
Kathleen was predeceased by her husband "Bill" William Ruhl and her son Wayne Ruhl. She was also predeceased by her brothers Howard (Betty) and Edwin (Beatrice) Baker, and her sisters June (Donald) Marshall and Hazel (John) Bryck.
Kathleen was born at Summerdale, Alberta, to Guy and Frieda (nee Messmer) Baker. Her mother passed away in 1928 and her father died in 1938. In 1940 Kathleen and her siblings moved to Tiger Lily to live with their uncle Abner Conant. Kathleen worked at Frank Pon's restaurant in Barrhead for a while, and also worked in Edmonton. On January 25, 1945 she married Bill Ruhl, a returning soldier. She then lived the rest of her life on the Campsie farm except for the last year spent in Barrhead. Kathleen raised her three sons, helped out on the farm with whatever needed doing, maintained a lovely flower garden, and always had an enviable, large vegetable garden. She shared the bountiful produce and raspberries with family and friends. Kathleen could put together a meal seemingly out of thin air; her fridge held only milk and eggs and a few condiments...but the table would be generous. And she made a wickedly wonderful Christmas pudding! Over the years Kathleen was also an active member of the Campsie community and Barrhead Ladies Auxiliary Legion. She enjoyed discussing world events and politics; she had strong opinions and liked stimulating conversations.
Beating cancer for a fourth time wasn't to be. The family would like to thank Dr. Krantz and his associates, the EMS, and the Hillcrest, Homecare and Healthcare staff for their care of Kathleen.
At Kathleen's request, a Celebration of Life will be held later this year. In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted to the Cross Cancer Centre, Alberta Heart and Stroke Fdn., Barrhead Healthcare Centre, or charity of your choice.
