James Ronald Cantwell

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Rosemary (Rose) Gerhardt of Barrhead, AB; his daughter, Shauna Cantwell of Ocala, FL, USA; his step-daughters, Heather Gerhardt of Edmonton, AB and Deanne Gerhardt (Peter Tait) of Parkland County, AB. Jim had one beloved grandson, Liam Gerhardt of Edmonton, AB. Also surviving him are his sister Dorothy Sentes (John) of Lestock, SK; nieces and nephews, Lorretta (Larry), Daniel (Debbie), Louise, and Dennis (Jessica), extended family and many friends. Jim was predeceased by his son, Kirstan (Kirk) Cantwell (1989) and a niece, Lorraine.

Jim impacted many lives over the course of his teaching career. He appreciated that he was able to form and continue positive friendships with many of his former students. He will be remembered for his quick wit, humor, sarcasm and lifelong quest for learning. He loved gardening and had a fondness for bird watching, and those closest to him will also remember him as a kind, caring, generous, thoughtful, supportive confidant and friend. Liam remembers his ‘beelo’ as fun loving and caring. He has many happy memories of Jim, including playing street hockey, ice skating, watching sports games, going to swimming lessons, wrestling, playing board games, talking about math, and having lots of fun and hugs.

Special thanks to all the medical personnel who provided professional care to Jim over the past year and to the medical team at the Barrhead Hospital who provided care and comfort on his final day.

As per Jim’s request, no funeral or memorial service will be held.
