February 6, 1924 – December 20, 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, grandmother & sister Helen Harris on December 20, 2017 at the age of 93 years.
Helen leaves to cherish her memory her loving family; children, Randy Harris & Lori (Dale) Bohn; daughter-in-law, Joy Bucilla; six grandchildren, Donna (Cas), Heather (John), Jennifer (Duane), Halimah (Yamani), Anita (Ryno), and Daniel (Lauren); six great grandchildren, Kyler, Breanne, Damian, Yusha, Musa and Malika. Also left to mourn is her dear sister, Myrtle (Gerald) Marshall & sister-in-law, Sandra Ramsley; plus numerous relatives and many dear friends. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Fred in 2002; sons, Donald in 1977 and Douglas in 2011; her parents, Andrew and Lena; brother, Allan.
Helen was born in Redcliff on February 6, 1924 and moved to Clandonald in her younger years where their family farmed for many years. However, our Aunty Myrt explains that mom often got to stay inside and practice piano while she and brother Alan had to do all the chores. She loved to tease mom about that story.
In the fall of 1943, Helen came from Clandonald to teach school in Mystery Lake. There mom meet and married our dad in 1947 and raised us four children on the family farm. Mom and Dad retired in the mid-1980s and enjoyed travelling and visiting their grandchildren. Mom loved children and enjoyed her time as a substitute teacher at Tiger Lily. Mom also loved music and playing the piano, and in her younger days going to dances. Mom enjoyed playing cards and board games with family and friends. Plus, she always looked forward when someone would stop by for a visit or called her on the telephone to visit.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hillcrest Lodge and to everyone who took the time to help mom throughout the past years. At Mom’s request there will be no funeral held. The family will have a private celebration of her life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Roseglen Cemetery Fund or charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements under the direction of Rose Garden Chapel, Barrhead, AB.
