Mr. John Gambrel age 83 of Walker, KY departed this life on Saturday, February 28, 2015 in the Knox Co. Hospital. He was born on April 6, 1931 and was the son of Ross Gambrel and Cordie (Patterson) Gambrel. He was a member of the Salem Baptist Church and was a Coal Miner. He loved to hunt rabbits, squirrels and deer. He also enjoyed building dog houses, bird houses and sleds. On December 16, 1952 he united in marriage with Lois Messer and to this union two sons were born.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Cordie Gambrel, one grandchild, Delbert Gambrel, Jr. half- brothers Harl Gambrel, Robert Gambrel, Asberrie Gambrel and Donald Lee Gambrel and sisters, Esceline Sizemore, Irene Honeycutt, Bertha Hubbard, Pearlie Gambrel, Gracie Hubbard and Bessie Gambrel.
Left behind to mourn his passing, his loving wife of sixty three years, Lois Gambrel of Walker, two sons, John Gambrel, Jr. and wife Henrietta of Artemus and Delbert Gambrel and girlfriend Tracy of Walker, two brothers, Dan Gambrel of Flat Lick and Lloyd Gambrel and wife Edith of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, two sisters, Gennie Beth Dye of Flat Lick and Bobbie Jean Cox of Barbourville, two grandchildren, Beulah Honeycutt and husband Clarence, Jr. and Edward Johnathan Gambrel, five great grandchildren, Johnathan Ryan Gambrel, Delbert Kyle Gambrel, Megan Mills, Breanna Honeycutt and Jacob Hensley. He also leaves behind a host of many other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Mr. Gambrel will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Ricky Broughton, Rev. Herman Mills and Rev. Chester Bud Sizemore officiating. Pallbearers will be Lester Grubb, Ricky Mills, Clarence Honeycutt, Jr., Nathan Carter and Ronnie Grubb, Jim Rose, Jason Gambrel, Lee Tyler Bingham, Jerry Paul Cox, Ernest Sizemore, Jr. and Gary Sizemore. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnathan Ryan Gambrel, Jacob Hensley and Delbert Kyle Gambrel. Burial will follow in the Davis Cemetery at Acorn Fork. Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
Friends will be received at the Hampton Funeral Home on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 1:00 p.m.
