Henry “H.C.” Helton departed this life on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital, being 84 years, 2 months and 20 days of age. He was born on February 7, 1932 in Knox County, Kentucky to the late Roscoe Helton and the late Florence Valentine Helton. H.C. was also preceded in death by his son Carl Edward Helton; two very special grandsons: Michael Wayne Grubb and William Travis Gray; three brothers: George Helton, Tommy J. Helton and Don Helton and his sister-in-law Sharon Helton Chance. Henry was a heavy equipment operator and a member of Concord Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and loved watching UK basketball. Most of all, he enjoyed spending his time with his family.
Left to mourn his passing is his loving wife of 64 years Lela Helton of Flat Lick; his daughter Judy Grubb Hensley and husband Steve of Flat Lick; grandson Steve Grubb and wife Erin of Barbourville; great-grandsons Trevor and Jared Grubb of London; his daughter Sue Merida and special son in law Carl Merida of Flat Lick; grandson Jason Merida and wife Tina of Flat Lick; great-grandsons Kyle and Korey Merida of Flat Lick; grandson Scott Merida and girlfriend Kelly Black of Flat Lick; his daughter Jeannette Gray of Flat Lick; grandson Benjamin Tyler Gray of Flat Lick; sisters: Lovella Pickard of Barbourville, Bea Gray of Flat Lick; brother Lewis Helton and wife Carol of Barbourville; three sisters-in-law Loretta Helton of Flat Lick, Lela Helton Williams of Knoxville, Tennessee and Geraldine Gambrel of St. Louis, Missouri; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A funeral service to celebrate H.C.’s life will be conducted on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 2:00PM in the chapel of Hampton Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Roberts and Rev. Vernon Morris officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Hammons Cemetery at Flat Lick with Steve Grubb, Trevor Grubb, Jared Grubb, Tyler Gray, Scott Merida, Jason Merida and Korey Merida serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kyle Merida, Dr. R. Vora and Med Surg Nursing staff and Friends of Barbourville ARH. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 29, 2016 at Hampton Funeral Home from 6PM until 9PM.
