Mr. Edward Smith, Jr. age 85 of Girdler, KY departed this life on Saturday, December 10, 2016 in the Continued Care Hospital in Corbin. He was the widower of Elsie Smith and the son of Edward & Nora Smith born to them in Fount, KY on September 14, 1931. He was a member of the Rock Springs Baptist Church. He had been a factory worker and enjoyed fishing and coon hunting.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Elsie, a daughter, Elva Jean Abner, two brothers, R. J. Smith and Abe Smith, two sisters, Geneva Hale and Annie Mae Smith.
Survivors include one son, Donnie Smith of Girdler three brothers, Charles Smith and wife Wilma of Woolum, Earl Smith and wife June of Flat Lick and Chris Smith of Girdler, two grandchildren, Angela Roberts and Marty Abner, three great grandchildren, Makayla Abner, Megan Baker and husband Jerry and Waylon Roberts and wife Courtney, four great great grandchildren, Cayden Baker, Kyle Baker, Addison Baker and Bailey Kate Roberts, eight brothers and sisters in law, Wilma and Wayne Smith, Lovella and Donnie Hampton, Susan Gregory, Floretta Smith, Gilbert and Linda Smith, Gladys Smith, Will Smith and Jerry Chadwell. He also leaves behind a host of many other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Mr. Edward Smith, Jr. will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jabe Smith officiating. Pallbearers will be Glen Smith, Herschel Smith, Leroy Smith, Jeremy Mills and Gary Smith. Burial will follow in the Anderson Smith Cemetery at Woolum, KY. Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the Hampton Funeral Home on Wednesday, from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
