KAREN POWELL, of Timonium, passed away on February 8, 2013 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. Karen was born on June 9, 1937, in Bremerton, Washington and was educated at Long Beach State in California. Her music has been taken away from us for now, but her spirit will live in our hearts forever.
Karen was an incredibly gifted musician, a loving mother, grandmother and a very special friend. Karen taught piano and music technique to hundreds of students over the years and was a teacher at Maryvale Preparatory School for several years. She was the choir director and accompanist at Hunts Memorial Church for many years and also served in those capacities at Mays Chapel Church in Timonium. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Beatrice Olsen, and is survived by her only sister Claire Wuorinen.
She leaves behind her beloved husband Jerry, sons Jay, Douglas (Michelle), and daughter Andrea Mahoney (Paul). She was the devoted grandmother of Jeremy and Mitchell Powell, David Baldwin and Sarah and Paul Mahoney.
A Memorial Service will be held at Hunts Memorial United Methodist Church, at Old Court and Joppa Roads in Riderwood on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 11:00am.
Interment Private.
