William Martin Sr. was born on September 4, 1943 in the small beach-side town of Progreso, Yucatan, Mexico. He was the youngest of the children born to Manuel Martin and Rosa Maria Herrera. On September 16, 1965 (age 22) he married the love of his life, Gilda Maria Guillen. They moved to Campeche where he opened a tire shop and worked very hard to support his wife and seven children.
In February 1976 (age 33) economic times were hard. He sold his business and came to the United States to seek a better life for himself and his family. He immediately started working and with help of his brother and sister-in-law (Jose & Elsa Herrera) soon brought his family to live here in the United States. He worked various jobs throughout his life. He worked for over 25 years at Sizzler's Restaurant, where he was a very responsible, hard-working, and dependable employee. He was well liked and respected by his employers and co-workers.
He was a man of faith; faithful to God, faithful to his family, and a faithful member of his church. He was a longtime member of Family Christian Church, helping out in any way he could. He was a man who had a unique sense of humor, loved to laugh, and tell silly jokes. He loved to spend time with his family and he was a seriously devoted Dodger fan.
He leaves behind his cherished wife, Gilda of 59 years, and his children: Teresita, David, Elizabeth and husband Roberto, Miriam, William Jr, Abraham and wife Maria, Angel. His 20 plus grandchildren, 10 great-grand children, many nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
