Victoria Yañez, known to family and friends as “Vicky” was born in Juchitlan, Jalisco in Mexico to Zenaida (survived by) and Porfirio Yañez (predeceased). She is the eldest of eight and survived by her siblings; Simón (Rosa) Yañez, Tita (William) Borrelli, Eduardo (Robin) Yañez, Catalina (Roberto) Figueroa, Ana (Mario) Mora, María (Juan) Zavala, and Claudia (Ismael) Yañez.
She married her husband, Jesús Alvarez Jiménez (survived by) of 45 years, on December 20, 1975, in Lamont, CA. She is also survived by her four children; Jesús (Maria), Miguel (Flor), Sandra (Martin) Castro, Patricia (Fidel) Padilla, and 11 grandchildren; Bianca, Jonathan, Jason, Benjamin, Martin, Miguel, Matthew, Maylani, Natalie, Andrew, and Lucas.
Vicky’s ambition for education showed as she completed the Licensed Vocational Nursing program at Bakersfield College in 2008. She then began a 13-year career in nursing, recently retiring from Salinas Valley State Prison as a Medical Technical Assistant in 2019. Vicky valued education and inspired her children to pursue an education of their own.
In her later, years Vicky loved gardening, bible studies, walks, watching comedy movies, and traveling. She loved to go on trips with her grandchildren, her pride and joy.
Vicky was a member of the LifeHouse Church in Bakersfield, CA. She recently completed theology coursework at El Instituto Bíblico Mizpa, an international theology institute. Vicky earned the highest GPA in her cohort during her second semester; her family was very proud.
Services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park; a visitation will be held Tuesday, December 21, 2021, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, a celebration of life will occur Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at 9:00 AM, and a graveside service will occur Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at 10:00 AM.
