Veronica Gail Garone

Veronica was preceded in death by her parents, Raul and Calla Gonzales; her brother Raul Gonzales, Jr.; her first husband Norman McKenzie; and her second husband, Gary Lee Garone.

She was born Veronica Gail Gonzales on October 10, 1938, in Bakersfield, California. However, everyone knew her as "Ronnie." She was the fifth of six children born into the family. She graduated from Garces High School in 1956 and completed her education at Lufkin's Business College. Ronnie enjoyed her thirty-year career serving her lifelong Bakersfield community as an optician.

Ronnie wore her heart on her sleeve. She was a compassionate, dedicated, and a fun loving woman that placed her faith, family, and friends before herself. She loved everyone unconditionally and was the bond of her entire family. She and her husband Gary travelled the world together. Ronnie cared for Gary like no one else until his death in 2008. She enjoyed trips with her church group as well as many vacations with her companion Ken Peters. Ronnie looked forward to her monthly outings with the "Garces Girls." She was adored by family and friends, and was especially close to her daughter Rhonda. She thought the world of her children and four grandchildren. Ronnie was our angel on Earth.

Ronnie is survived by her daughter Rhonda Garone of Bakersfield; son Brian (Christine) Garone of Tehachapi; grandchildren Lauren (Chenard), Cody (Punch), Keaton (Punch), and Morgan (Garone); siblings Joan Magovero, David Gonzales, Oliver Gonzales, and Olivia Elcano, as well as many beloved nieces, and nephews.

A public visitation will be held Sunday, July 30, 2017, at Hillcrest Memorial Park Chapel, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA from 4-6pm.

Funeral services will be held at Saint Francis Catholic Church, 900 H Street, Bakersfield, CA on Monday, July 31, 2017, at 9:30 am.
