Velma Reed Smith

She was born in Foster, Oklahoma in 1940 to Bertha and Edgar Ritter. She is one of five children. Velma and her family moved from Oklahoma to Washington to California before the age of 10. As a child, she helped on her parents' farm. Velma attended Bakersfield College, where she majored in nursing. Going onto work as a Registered Nurse for 50 years. Velma was a dedicated member of her church and lived to serve her savior Jesus Christ. Velma intentionally lived her life, "Prioritize your time. Do things that count for eternity."

Velma was preceded in death by her parents; Edgar and Bertha Ritter. Her former husbands; Raymond Magar who passed away after one year of marriage, Robert Reed who passed away after 33 years of marriage, and Lawerence (Al) Smith who passed away after 12 years of marriage. Her son Delbert Reed and daughter Robin Anderson. Her siblings Odell Ritter, Herb Ritter, and her twin sister Thelma Biter. She is survived by her sister Virgie Beard, her son Robert Reed Jr. and his family, her son Sean Reed and his family, her son John Reed and his family, and her son Paul Welch and his family. She also leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Services will be held at Canyon Hills Assembly of God on November 15, 2024 at 10 a.m. The graveside service will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Royal Family Kids Camp at royalfamilykidskern.org.
