Onita Olene March

Onita O. March (Martin), 69, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children, on May 25, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on July 1, 1953, to Calvin and Mary Martin (Cummings), Onita grew up in Oildale and attended Standard School District and North High School.

In 1973, she married Steven March, and together they raised a beautiful family. Onita was a devoted, loving mother and grandmother, and her family was the center of her world. She was a Cafeteria/Yard Aide at Beardsley Elementary School for 34 years, where she touched the lives of countless students and colleagues with her kindness and generosity.

Onita was a woman of strong faith, and her belief in God sustained her throughout her life and on her hardest days.

Onita is survived by her husband of 50 years, Steven March, her biological and adopted children, Rachelle Martin, Angela March, Stephanie (Corey) Goss, Michael (Laura) March, and Robert (Elizabeth) Martin, as well as her 10 beautiful grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Barbara (Joseph) Vesper, Rachel Cowen (Martin) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and 4 brothers, Jimmy, Johnny, Richard and Joey and sister Olsen Martin.

Visitation is on Monday, June 12, 5pm-8pm at Hillcrest Memorial Park, located at 9101 Kern Canyon Rd. Funeral services on, Tuesday, June 13, at 9am, followed by graveside services at 10am. Flowers may be delivered to Hillcrest Park in Onita's name, OR donations may be made in Onita's honor to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at pancan.org. Special Thanks to Hoffmann Hospice for their compassion and loving care given to our mother and our family.

Onita will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those she touched. May she rest in peace, and may her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.

A visitation for Onita will be held Monday, June 12, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, June 13, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306. A graveside service will occur Tuesday, June 13, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306.
