He was born January 21, 1989 in Coalinga, California. Matthew spent most of his life in Bakersfield, where he called home. He attended Independence Elementary, Rosedale Middle School, and graduated from Liberty High School in 2007. At Liberty, he was active on the basketball team, football team, swim team and band. Following high school, he attended a technical trade school and worked as an electrician.
Anyone who knew Matthew was touched by his kindness, humor, and mild temperament. He was truly a peacemaker, and was always a source of positivity. Matthew loved all music; everything from Frank Sinatra to Pink Floyd to Snoop Dog. His many musical talents included playing the piano, tuba, and during his rockstar days, the guitar! He sang and played in a rock band during high school, writing new and original songs with his band that had dedicated fans. Along with music, Matthew also enjoyed exploring the outdoors, including camping, hiking, fishing, and skiing. He will be greatly missed by many.
Matthew is survived by Mary and Brook Luter and Charles and Christine Murphy sister Sarah Storey, brother Jacob Luter, stepsister’s Kayla McNeil and Jenna Van Dyke. He is also survived by the love of his life Jessica McCoy, and many dear friends.
A visitation for Matthew will be held Sunday, April 10, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306.
Matt's Celebration of Life will occur Monday, April 11, 2022 from 2:00 PM at St John's Lutheran Church, 4500 Buena Vista Rd, Bakersfield, CA 93311.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks Matthew be honored with a donation to your favorite charity of choice, in Matthew’s name.
