December 22, 1925 - January 26, 2023
Margaret Scarrone was born on December 22, 1925 to Italian immigrants, Frank George and Teresa Barberis Pizzo in Cucamonga, CA. She attended schools in Los Angeles area and ultimately met the love of her life, Lawrence Pete Scarrone, whom she married November 24, 1948 in Riverside, CA., and shared 50 loving years with; until his death in 1999. Born of this union, was their only child John Franklin Scarrone.
In January of 1962, Lawrence and Margaret with John, in tow, moved to the Wheeler Ridge area of Kern County, where to date the family farming and packing headquarters remain. Margaret was instrumental in the creation and operations of the various ag related ventures that her and Lawrence were owners of both separately and with their son, John. No task was too much for Margaret, whether it be packing sweet potatoes or various squashes in the shed, or maintaining books in the office, she wasn't "afraid to get her hands dirty" and was a Vital Team Player!
Despite her active interest in the family businesses until her mid eighties, Margaret always prioritized her roles as wife, mom and grandma. Family was of most importance to her, evidenced by her constant telephone calls "just to see how you were." She loved to cook and delighted her family with her scrumptious Italian raviolis, risotto, star soup and flan, just to name a few. Prior to her death, she reminisced with John and her granddaughter Megan about the many family meals celebrated and in a weak moment shared her "guarded secret" recipes to some of the family favorites, to allow them to carry forward her legacy.
In their retirement, Lawrence and Margaret enjoyed traveling and enjoyed many cruises as well as several trips to Ital and other parts of Europe. After Lawrences death, Margaret continued to travel to Italy to visit family, her last trip being in 2018 but duly noted as her 17" trip to Italy. In addition to their extensive travel adventures, Margaret and Lawrence were blessed to host many fun-filled days for familv and friends at their beach house in Cayucos.
Upon Lawrences' death and because of the wonderful care provided him, in his final days, Margaret became a Volunteer for Optimal Hospice Care now named Bristol-Optimal Hospice. Though she started as an office volunteer, it wasn't long before another talent of hers was discovered "Sewing".
Thus, Margaret spent many hours at her Machine, making bibs and aprons for Hospice patients. An added bonus was her "knitted" lap blankets. Margaret was the epitome of the hospice volunteer slogan that "Volunteers make the world a more loving and giving place."
Although her house on the ranch was Home, in her final 3 years Margaret lived @ Village of Seven Oaks now named Ivy Park @ Seven Oaks. Thanks to her very loving caretakers and staff, Margaret quickly settled in to enjoy her "best life" filled with daily activities of bingo, cards, Happy Hour and meals "to die for" mostly shared with her precious new-found friends who soon became known as "The Golden Girls"
We will be forever grateful to the incredible staff of Ivy Park and Bristol Optimal Hospice for their never-ending care and support of our Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt and Friend.
Margaret is survived by her only son and daughter-in-law John and Pat Scarrone, two granddaughters Kristen Scarrone-Totzke and Megan (Nick) La Valley, five great-grandchildren Laciana (Laci), Luke Lawrence, and Leonardo (Leo) LaValley, Dilynn Totzke and Patrick Terri (PT) Scarrone-Totzke. She will also be missed by her nieces, nephews and numerous Friends.
