Margaret Ann Garro passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on October 8, 2022.
She was born in Bakersfield, California to Alvaro and Petra Zamora. She was proud of her life experiences, the people she met along the way, and to have attended East Bakersfield High School, Class of 1966. She continued her education at Bakersfield College and later returned to East Bakersfield High School as an assistant to then principal, Jean Phillipe. She had fond memories working as a substitute switchboard operator, finance, and attendance administrator throughout the Kern High School District. After many years, she retired from public service to become a homemaker and bookkeeper for her husband, Carlos' gardening business.
Margaret was a caring and loving woman of her faith and family. She enjoyed trips to Morro Bay, cooking, sewing, and watching her favorite movies and crime shows like Law and Order and NCIS.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Carlos Garro. She is survived by her son Carlos (Charlie) Garro, her daughters Sandra Caudel and Andrea von Schriltz and her beautiful grandchildren Michael Garro and Sylvia Caudel. She is also survived by her sisters Stella Apezteguia and Mary Mudge and brother Ruben Zamora of Bakersfield as well as nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins from California and Mexico.
A rosary will be held in Bakersfield at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel, 9101 Kern Canyon Rd. on October 25th at 6pm. Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 900 H. St. on October 26th at 10am, followed by burial at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Charlie Garro, Brandon Caudel, Travis von Schriltz, Sammy Zamora, Kelly Langston, David Mudge, Manuel San Miguel Jr., and honorary pallbearer, Charles Gonzaga.
The family is deeply grateful to the entire staff at the Rehabilitation Center of Bakersfield for their compassionate care, including Dr. William Biachai and her nurses Candy and Gina, Dr. Brandon James Hawkins and staff of Stockdale Podiatry Group and the nursing staff of Adventist Health Bakersfield for their kindness in caring for Margaret.
