Larry Dean Pumphrey

A beloved Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather, Great-grandfather, Uncle, Cousin, Friend. Larry had a great love for all his family and friends and will be missed, loved, grieved, and remembered often.

Larry was born in Bakersfield December 27, 1950. The youngest of 5 boys, he passed peacefully in his sleep May 11, 2024. He graduated from Arvin High School in 1969 and developed a strong interest in classic cars, engine rebuilding, enjoyed TV shows of car restoration, auctions and Hallmark movies. An excellent marksman he also appreciated various guns and high-powered rifles, he celebrated any opportunity to target practice, camp, fish, or spend time with his family.

Larry attended Bakersfield College before enlisting in the US Air Force from February 8, 1972 to July 3, 1974. Upon being discharged, he worked various jobs in Arvin and Kern County including Reeves Extruded Products, farming, the carwash, then settling into a 30-year career as a short and long-haul Trucker for various companies before his service disability retirement in 2011.

Preceded in death by parents Lois Katherene (Tallon) and Eugene Pumphrey/Oklahoma, Brothers: Gene Pumphrey (Carol Reeves/Bakersfield), Bert Pumphrey (Jan/Oklahoma), Kenny Pumphrey/Arkansas and two Great-Grandchildren, Gabriel and Harrison DeWitt. He and his brothers were well known in the community through their deeds and (misdeeds) during the 1960's-1980's.

Larry is survived by wife of 13+years, Nancy Pumphrey. Daughter: Amber Pumphrey and Sons: Jason Pumphrey (Melanie) and Kody Pumphrey (Erica). Stepchildren: Kristen VanNeman (David), Wendy Gonzales (Nick) and Rebecca Campbell (Melanie Baker).

His Sole surviving brother is Lonney Pumphrey (Arlene/Bakersfield). May God Bless them with many healthy and happy years.

Grandchildren: Riley (Blanca), Kristin, Jessie, JC, Molly, Ryan, Emily, Taylor

Step-Grandchildren: Breanne, Tyler, Cadence, Guyver, Elliott, Jett, Oliver, Ethier

Great-Grandchildren: Ethan, Joshua plus one on the way.
