Laraine has been married to her husband David since 12-25-1964. They shared 56 loving years. She is survived by her husband David, sons David Jr., and Keith “Opie” and daughter Dawn Schnell. Children were raised in the Kern River Valley where they have lived since 1976.
Laraine was owner/operator of a very successful business called the Country Cottage Beauty Salon since 1985, where she continued to work 2 days a week. Laraine was an active member of Mt. Mesa Church Of Christ where she attended regularly. Laraine was a Jobs Daughters past Honored Queen, she is presently Worthy Matron of Order of Eastern Star chapter 643, Deputy Grand Matron of Order of Eastern Star District 23, Vice President of Daughters of the Nile, active with Kern Valley youth programs, an officer of the South Fork Women’s Club, and an active member in the local Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter.
In her spare time Laraine enjoyed crocheting skull caps for Shriners Hospital children, made covid masks, lap robes and pillows for breast cancer patients, and chemo caps for cancer patients.
Laraine was active in so many things. She was known for her decorating and flower arranging skills and was frequently called upon to decorate for meetings, weddings, and other events. She loved doing for everyone. She knows people everywhere she goes and her smile could light up the room.
Laraine leaves behind 3 children along with their partners: David Jr. and Amanda Cook, Keith Cook and Shelly McNiel, and Dawn and Ronnie Schnell. She has 10 grandchildren Justin and Peyton Looy, Jessie and husband Tim Binns. Taylor, John and Savannah Cook, Baylee and Blake Cook. She also leaves behind 4 great grandchildren: Marlee and Tenlee Looy, Luke Cook and Kora Binns. Laraine is also survived by sister Carol Holloway and nephews Shannon and Trevor Carpenter.
