John Hunt Whitney was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to John and Lucille Whitney. He was the youngest of 3 children. He loved his two older sisters Gayle and Jean. His sisters blessed him with 8 nieces and nephews. John, also known as, Jack married Sondra Gean Dobberstein. Together they were blessed with two children John Paul and Anna Maria. His grandchildren were the light of his life Bladen, Blayzz, Tiana, Anise, Braya and Robby. They referred to Grampa as their best friend and the center of some of their fondest childhood memories. Grampa always took time to play with them and always stopped to listen. Grampa never cared too much for material possessions but, he did cherish his favorite attire which included his many “Best Grampa” shirts and hats.
John was a Korean War Veteran, serving our country in the United States Air Force. He was always interested in Science, Computers, and Writing. He continued his career as a computer programmer. He had many ideas and inventions, he always had a notepad and pen to stop and write them down. He was a BRILLIANT man. John was passionate about his writings, he had publications, such as “the PEOPLE lobby” and a website ThinkAlive.com to communicate his ideas and thoughts. He cherished any conversation especially those about Politics and Religion.
Dad loved the Lord, he was passionate about living life to its fullest. He marched to the beat of his own drum and embraced the simple and important things in life. He believed with all his heart that Jesus IS the way and the truth and the life. Nobody comes to the Father except throught me. John 14:6 Dad, Enjoy heaven and your long talks with Jesus and maybe Paul. We Love you, this is not Goodbye but see you in paradise someday.
A viewing will be held Saturday, October 12, 2012 from 12 pm to 6 pm at Mish Funeral Home. A military graveside service will be held at Bakersfield National Cemetery Monday Oct. 15, 2012 at 1:15 pm. In lieu of flowers, please join the family for a no host lunch immediately following the service at Las Fuentes Restaurant, 212 Bear Mt. Blvd. in Arvin; or if you wish please plant a tree wherever you would like in John’s memory.
