Jerry Dean Holt entered his eternal rest on Sunday, December 19, 2010 at the age of 75. Jerry was born on October 1, 1935, in Vian, Oklahoma to Homer and Dora Belle Holt. Jerry moved with his family to New Mexico and then to California, settling in the Fairfax community of Bakersfield. Jerry attended elementary school in Fairfax and then Bakersfield High School. While growing up Jerry learned how to work hard. He picked cotton, cut grapes, dug potatoes-basically whatever work he could find to help out with his family finances.
On December 3, 1954, Jerry married his sweetheart of 6 weeks, Mildred Ringer. Jerry and Mildred moved to Southern California where they raised their family. Jerry worked as a machine operator and later as a floor supervisor for the Fruit Growers Division of Crown Zellerbach. Jerry worked bi vocationally as a Pastor of Fourth Street Baptist Church in Ontario. Following his retirement and move to Visalia, Jerry served as Pastor of Woodlake First Southern Baptist Church and as Interim Pastor of First Baptist Church of Three Rivers. Jerry served most recently as Assistant Pastor at Sierra Baptist Church of Visalia.
Jerry was preceded in death by is brother Danny this past May. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mildred Holt of Visalia; daughter Gerri Ann Moore and her husband John of Los Osos; daughter Deanna House and her husband Henry of Hesperia; five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel in Bakersfield.
