Jean Lois Clark, 87, passed away on February 11, 2014 surrounded by family. She was born in Santa Barbara, California on September 9, 1926, to Henry Smithwick Aldrich and Edna Rudolph Aldrich. Jean spent her early years in Santa Ynez, California, graduating from Santa Ynez High School in 1944.
Always young at heart, Jean was known for her beautiful soul and enduring love of family and friends. Stranger was not a word in her vocabulary. Her knack for making everyone feel loved and wanted extended beyond her immediate family to anyone who needed a hug and a cookie. Spoiling people was what she did best, especially
her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jean never threw away a card, a letter, or a recipe. In her eyes they were all precious keepsakes of people near and dear. Her smile could light up a room. She was an accomplished seamstress and cook, and delighted friends and family alike with gourmet meals always prepared from scratch. She loved art and music, and entertained family and friends with her marimba. Opportunities were seized and life was always lived to its fullest, setting a fine example for younger generations of a life well-lived.
Jean's passion for life was shared with two special men at two different times of her life. August 13, 1944, Jean married Alfred Davis and over the next 17 years six children were born. Al passed away in 1979. A caring mother and wife, her husband and each of her children held a special place in her heart. David Clark inspired a new passion in Jean's life and together they traveled the world and enjoyed many adventures and new friends along the way. Commited to one another since February 17, 1981, they were officially united in marriage on November 3, 1990 to the oft-heard comment, "It's about time."
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alfred, and grandson Leland Davis. She is survived by her husband Dave, sisters Dorcas Mustin and Barbara Allison and brother Roscoe Aldrich; children Alfred Davis, Jr (Seanne), Janet Brannagan (Rege), Dennis Davis (Kerry), Ronald Davis (Barbara Ann), Clifford Davis, and Joni Becker (Gary). She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 16th. A celebration of life will be held at Jean and Dave's home beginning at 2:00 pm on Sunday as well. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to your favorite charity.
