Harold Kay Herod

Harold 84, was born May 24,1933 in Bakersfield, CA. and joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 14, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Jean Herod and grandson Patrick Carlton. Leaves behind wife of 42 years Vernie Herod. Daughter Debbie Carlton and Son David Herod (Donna) of Co. Vernie's daughters Linda Brandon (Bob) and Rita Lorenz of Bakersfield, CA. 9 grandkids 13 great grandkids. Harold lived most of his 84 yrs. in Panama area on Taft Hwy and was one of 4 generations to attend Panama School. He was a KCHS graduate.

His grandmother, Dr. Bennett was the 1st Dentist, and Aunt Dr. Lois Worthington 1st woman horse and buggy Dr. in town.

Harold's 1st job was at 11 yrs old at a Dairy Barn earning $11.50 a week. In 1947 he worked as a meat cutter for Sutherlands Market until serving in the US Army as a Firefighter 1953-1955 in the Korean War. Back to Sutherlands Market until it closed in 1962. He joined Safeway (Vons) until retiring in 1989 after 40 years.

Harold will be buried at Bakersfield National Cemetery Bear Mtn Blvd, Arvin, CA. on Friday January 5, 2018 at 1:15 p.m. in lieu of flowers please make donations to Optimal Hospice on NOR Meals on Wheels.
