Gregory Lee Hoeper, 69, of Bakersfield, CA, passed away on January 31, 2024. He was born on April 4, 1954, in Bakersfield, CA, to Ellen and Raymond Hoeper. Gregory proudly served in the Army from 1972 to 1975.
Gregory was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He cherished his family and enjoyed spending quality time with them. Gregory had a passion for vacationing and made it a priority to create lasting memories with his loved ones. Annual trips to Disneyland when his children were younger transitioned into fishing trips as they grew older. Bishop, Lake Tahoe, and Santa Barbara were among his favorite destinations. Gregory took great joy in teaching his children how to fish and witnessing their excitement as they walked back with their catches. He had a knack for bringing laughter to any gathering with his collection of inappropriate jokes. Gregory's warm heart and sense of humor endeared him to many, and he will be deeply missed.
Gregory is survived by his beloved wife, Darla, and their children: Sandi (Dustin Silva), Stephanie (Paul Kuhs), and Gregory (Victoria). He will also be remembered by his grandchildren: Ethan Radford, Kylie Kuhs, Mason Kuhs, Jacob Silva, Reilly Pritchard, Eleanor Hoeper, and Parker Kuhs. Gregory is also survived by his siblings, Kathy and Danny. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellen and Raymond Hoeper, his sister, Cynthia Cunningham, and his nephew, Jason Buffington.
Gregory attended Foothill High School and later pursued higher education at Cal State Bakersfield. After his military service, he embarked on a successful career in running packing sheds. Gregory managed Porter Farms in Lamont, CA, for over 10 years before joining Kirchenman Enterprises in Edison, CA, where he dedicated the last 20 years of his professional life.
When he was younger, Gregory enjoyed flying Cessna airplanes during his time stationed in Kentucky. He was also an avid follower of current events and enjoyed discussing history and politics. His love for knowledge led him to always have the news playing on the television.
A viewing and celebration of life for Gregory will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park, located at 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306. The family will receive guests from 5:00 to 6:00 pm, and the event will be open to everyone from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.
