Freddie Luis Landucci passed away at the age of 90, departing for heaven on July 31, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen Joanna Landucci, daughter Janice Morris (David), sons Freddie (Allison), Mark (Margaret), and Steven (Laurie), seven granddaughters, three grandsons, two great granddaughters and six great grandsons. Freddie’s family was the greatest source of pride and joy for this only child of Italian immigrants.
Freddie Landucci was born in Bakersfield to Angelo and Ida Landucci on December 19, 1926. He attended local schools and graduated from East Bakersfield High School in 1945. His father died when Freddie was 14, and he worked part time for a bakery, a lumber company, and a produce house while continuing school. He joined the U.S. Army to serve his country in the 23rd rifle infantry. He was discharged from the military on November 26, 1946 and returned to Bakersfield, where he met Helen, who became his wife November 13, 1948.
Freddie knew there was a hole in his life which only God could fill. As a child, on his own he started attending St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. From childhood to his teenage years and into manhood, he felt an ever growing need to serve God.
He also knew the importance of hard work; he spent most of his life working as a teamster driver and route man for Carnation Dairies. He retired as a participating member of the Teamsters Local 87. Freddie believed in the importance of family values such as hard work, sacrifice, encouragement, and faith in the pursuit of God. His children are all active members in various Christian churches.
Freddie’s greatest desire was that his children would understand the importance of a sound education. Each of them has received a college degree, with his grandchildren following suit. He loved to go hunting, fishing, camping, and scouting with his boys and attending church picnics with his whole family. California Hot Springs was a family favorite for picnics, fishing, playing in the creek, and swimming in the pool water fed by the hot springs. Vacations often included his children’s uncles and grandparents.
Freddie Landucci will live with us in our hearts and in our memories as a man whose greatest love was his family. Bye-bye, Bu-ga Bu-ga Man, we will miss your love and wisdom!
