Quietly, on December 2nd, Elsie Marie Thompson, age 96, passed from the cares and struggles we all face on this earth to the waiting arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Elsie, the youngest of three children, was born on May 4, 1915, in Selma, California. She was preceded in death bu her beloved husband of 72 years, Miller (Whitey) Thompson and is now joyfully reunited with him as promised. Elsie Thompson is survived by two daughters; Kathy (husband Frenchie DeFrese) and Elizabeth (husband Bill Tackett), and three sons; Bill, Patrick (wife Fran) and Gary (wife Sally). Besides being a wonderful wife and mother of five young children, Mom worked full time at Avenal Elementary School Cafeteria and early morning hours drove to Hanford and returned to Avenal with stacks of the Hanford Sentinel to the waiting paperboys in her garage. In about 1957, our family moved to Bakersfield where Mom worked as a Ward Clerk at Memorial Hospital, and later in their Nursery where she first held many new borns, including some of her own grandchildren. Many in Bakersfield first saw their new born babies in the arms of our mother. Besides her five children, Elsie was blessed with 17 Grandchildren, 24 Great-Grandchildren and 4 Great- Great-Grandchildren. We are all so grateful to God for blessing us with a mom who loved and was loved. She was a mother who carried each of her five children into church as infants, determined they would know the love of God and the promises of eternity. How blessed we are in the knowledge we shall see her again, where pain and tears are no more. Services will be held at Valley Baptist Church, 4800 Fruitvale Ave., at 11:00am on Thursday, December 8th, with graveside and internment following at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Roa
Arrangements under the direction of Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, Bakersfield, CA.
