Bakersfield Charles Artle Porter, known to his loved ones as Art, passed away on May 4, 2023, in his hometown of Bakersfield, California at the age of 82. Art was born on April 12, 1941, in Bakersfield, and graduated from Coalinga High in 1959.
Art worked in the oil well tool industry with Dailey Petroleum Service and as California Sales Manager for National Oil Well Tools until his retirement in 2003.
Art was easy to talk to and made long-lasting friendships with those he met throughout his life. He enjoyed cooking for family, friends, and community members in need. He was an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling with his wife Ponny, participating in Christian Fellowship, and he always looked forward to Friday morning breakfasts with his cousin and lifelong friend, Herman.
Art is survived by his daughter Tamara Barrera, son Charles Porter, son-in-law Ascencion Barrera, daughter-in-law Natasha Porter, grandchildren Andrew (Samantha), John (Donna), Layne, Nolan, and Sabrina (Rigoberto), great-grandchildren Blayne, Christopher, Derric, Marcus (Jordan), Matthew, Olivia, Valerie (Joseph), great-great-grandchildren Kalani and Xavier, and his sister Darlene (Dan), as well as his fur buddy and faithful companion, Jake.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ponny Porter and his parents Charles and Jewel Porter.
Art wanted a celebration, not a funeral. To honor that wish, colorful clothing is encouraged.
