1945 - 2018
Charles Ray Pilley was born on December 16, 1945 to Frank and Sylvia Pilley. He passed away in Bakersfield, California on February 12, 2018.
Lifelong resident and educator of Kern County, he attended local schools and held a master's degree in education. In addition to being an incredible educator, he created the first bilingual ESEA Title I program for BCSD in 1970. Charles taught at numerous local schools, including evening ESL courses for adults. He retired in 2005 as Principal at Fremont Elementary School.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Frank and Sylvia Pilley, and brothers, Ronald and Kenneth Pilley. He is survived by his sister, Carol Weems, of Bakersfield, and many nieces and nephews.
Charles impacted so many lives. As an educator of 35+ years in Kern County as well as his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
All services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary. Viewing will be held Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 5-9PM, with burial Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 10AM.
