Beatrice Hernandez

Beatrice Felix Hernandez was a leap year baby, born on February 29, 1934 in Bakersfield California. She was born early in the morning at 4:07 a.m. so her official birthday was moved back to February 28th. On Thursday, January 5, 2023, in her 88th year, Beatrice found peace and united with her two sons Charles and Jessie Gomez. She was also preceded in death by her parents: Adolph and Petra, brothers Hank, Adolph, Mike and Frank. She is survived by her siblings: Robert and Becky along with her children Manuel, Carmen and Leonora (Lee). She also leaves many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends all of whom loved her very much.

She worked for 22 years at Kern Medical Center as a kitchen assistant adding her extra ingredient of love to her food. Doctors and staff would special request her salsa and the food she would prepare. She was an amazing cook, loved her work and did her best in everything she did. She also loved to cook for her family and always had an open invitation to her home for family and friends to fellowship and enjoy her cooking.

Her home was known in the neighborhood as the corner blue green house with roses all along the fence. She loved to spend time nurturing her rainbow of roses, garden her own chilies and vegetables, and always willing to share.

The most important aspect of her life was her Christian beliefs which she celebrated with the Rivers of Living Waters Apostolic Ministries as an active member for many years. She loved to sing, worship and read her bible. Even with her Alzheimer’s disease she would sometimes recognize gospel songs and try to sing along up to her final days. She also loved to cook and fellowship with her church family, raising funds by making home made tortillas every week when she was able to.

She was an amazing woman: strong, kind, loving, faithful to her beliefs and a survivor through many hard times. She was admired, loved and cherished by so many. She will be greatly missed.

A visitation for Beatrice will be held Thursday, January 26, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306.

A funeral service will occur Thursday, January 26, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306.

A graveside service will occur Thursday, January 26, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306.
