Barbie Berry passed away January 19, 2019 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born in Ceres, CA to parents Bill and Jackie Hagen. At age two they moved to Wasco, where she grew up and attended Wasco schools. Barbie was a champion swimmer and athlete, as well as an outstanding student. She graduated from Wasco High School in 1974. She then attended UC Davis where she was on the swim and water polo teams. There she met her future husband, Don. She graduated from Davis in 1978 and married Donald Berry in 1979. Barbie and Don first lived in Orosi where she began her teaching career. In 1987 they moved to Bakersfield where Barbie continued her career as a reading tutor and primary teacher at Standard School District. Barbie was active in church where she taught Sunday School and attended various Bible Studies. She was very involved with her three daughters and their school and sports activities. Barbie lived by faith and was a kind and courageous woman who shined the light of Christ bright every day.
Barbie is survived by her husband Don, her three daughters; Allison Fletcher (Jake), grandsons Philip and James; Jennifer Blue (Sam), grandchildren Adaline and Silas; Katie Ofem (Brandon), grandson Isaiah.
She is also survived by her siblings Janice Hagen Armstrong (Dan), Bob Hagen (Charlotte), Rick Hagen (Marianne), many nieces and nephews, and three cousins.
Barbie was predeceased by her parents Bill and Jackie Hagen, her mother-in-law Zelma Berry, and various aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 29, 5:00-8:00 PM. A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, January 30, 10:00 AM at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary.
